A picture is worth a thousand words. A dying man holding his best friend. He lived homeless in Iowa with his dog in a car. When he became terminally ill and placed in hospice, his only request was to hold his dog one last time before passing on. Two souls quietly saying their goodbyes.
oooof. oh no, just watched the news video of this and lost it. good lord.

this is stella, one of my dogs, wearing a bloody wifebeater tank top. why, might you ask? well she’s a gross little pup (though lovable nonetheless) and started growing lumps on her back and apparently just had to have surgery on them because they got infected. so now she’s stuck wearing old t-shirts for protection of her stitches, or else she has to wear the cone of shame. poor puppup…
day 10 - talk about your pets
i’m still behind on this thing, so why not continue. i have two dogs back at home in newburyport, and i absolutely cannot wait to see them on wednesday! sammy is an 8 year old chocolate lab who couldn’t be any more of an absolute sweetheart. he has the perfect temperament and such a lovable personality. he’s the best to snuggle with because he has just the right amount of chub on his body, and he always can tell when i need a snuggle if i’m in a bad mood. i still can remember the day my dad brought him home unexpectedly. i happened to look out our living room window after hearing the sound of my dad’s truck door slamming shut, and i just yelled, “mom, dad has a puppy!” there was a fairly large, furry, chocolate colored thing cuddled up on his shoulder as he walked up the driveway and i’ve been in love with that big guy ever since. then there’s stella, otherwise known as tellies. again, it was a love at first sight situation when my mom and i laid eyes on her, we knew we had to have her. she’s known for beating up sammy and getting sassy, but she gives the best kisses and she’s such a good snuggler too because she can fit right in your lap. we give her a lot of shit for never being able to keep her mouth shut and causing drama with other pups, but she’s really the best. poor baby girl just gets so upset when we have to shave her when her fur gets too matted. then she gets all embarrassed and hides under her desk because she doesn’t feel pretty anymore. i’m SO looking forward to coming home to these babies on wednesday.
as far as future pets, i will forever have a spot in my heart for labs, especially handsome chocolate ones like sammy. however, our first two dogs were rescue pups and i feel strongly that i will want to adopt dogs in the future, before i ever consider getting one from a breeder, though i do love the two purebreds we have now. it’s horrifying to hear about what happens to these dogs in shelters if they’re not adopted fast enough, and even worse sometimes what has happened to them before they end up in a shelter. i’m hoping to find somewhere to volunteer next semester when i have a more free schedule, and i’ve even toyed with the idea of someday becoming involved in dog rescue work in terms of providing a safe place without risk of euthanasia and such as a career (for awhile at least), but that’s a whole other matter entirely! i love dogs, the end.
Look At This Fucking Dog Video of the Day: HARDCORE PARKOUR …dog.

i wish my dogs could do this! too bad they only run into fences when chasing squirrels…

Wild dogs that commute from suburbs to scavenge in city The clever canines board the Tube each morning. After a hard day scavenging and begging on the streets, they hop back on the train and return to the suburbs where they spend the night.
Experts studying the dogs say they even work together to make sure they get off at the right stop — after learning to judge the length of time they need to spend on the train. The mutts choose the quietest carriages at the front and back of the train. They have also developed tactics to hustle humans into giving them more food on the streets of Moscow.Dr Poiarkov told how the dogs like to play during their daily commute. He said: “They jump on the train seconds before the doors shut, risking their tails getting jammed. They do it for fun. And sometimes they fall asleep and get off at the wrong stop.” The dogs have learned to use traffic lights to cross the road safely, said Dr Poiarkov. And they use cunning tactics to obtain tasty morsels of shawarma, a kebab-like snack popular in Moscow.
